I-G-H, I-G-H, I I, I-----

That's part of our phonics dance chant!  I love it!!  My kiddos are doing so GREAT with their spelling thanks to these chunks.  Last week's oa/ow sounds I was worried about (seeing that it's incorporating 2 long o patters, and we've worked on long o/silent e already)--but I had 14 kids (14!!!!) get a +  on their Spelling Test.  *Sidenote, our district gives +,  check +, check, check -, and - as grades (it all means the same as A, B, C, D, F---so why do districts make things so confusing?)  But that was almost my WHOLE CLASS!!!  YAY!!  I'm hoping for the same great news for tomorrow's spelling assessment.

Here's a center I made to go along with our long I review.
We've been working on igh, y, and i all as the long I form.  We also made cute little Toads to go with our Frog and Toad Story (The Kite) today.  I HAVE GOT TO REMEMBER MY SD CARD!!!  *Taking it and laying it out now*

Okay---I also was in next year mode last night--so I make a new silent e packet.  Here's a preview:

You can click the images to check it out.

One more thing that I found online this week...perfect for tomorrow.  It's a cute leprechaun craft---free with templates.  Here's the picture, and you can click the image to take you directly to the link.

I'll leave you with two questions---

1) Do your kids take spelling tests?
2) What is your district's grading scale like for your grade level?

  1. My kids take Spelling Tests...the ones that go along with Storytown. Our first graders have to have a 70 or above in reading and math to pass =)

  2. We do Treasures like you....so we take spelling tests. We use O, S, N, U for grades on the report card. On papers I just give points...so 12/12 etc. It would be nice for grading to be more common and streamlined....

  3. I really like your sort but I noticed on the sentence sheet you had to igh sentences and no I sentence. Thought you might want to know so you could fix it. Thaks so much for sharing!

  4. We have letter grades on our report cards, but I rarely give them on the work we do. I mark the wrong answers and then write a fraction showing the number correct. (Figure the parents can do the math themselves!) Or a big star. Second grade is a bit young to really understand letter grades.

  5. We do 1-4 scale. 1 means you don't understand the standard at all, 2 means you get it some of the time, 3 means you understand the standard, and 4 means you can apply it in different applications.

  6. I'll admit I'm good at making mistakes, but I wanted two igh sentences. Thanks though. :)

  8. Hi! I LOVE, LOVe, LOVE your blog. You are so kind to share your hard work. I always use all your centers in my first grade classroom. I'm thinking about starting my own blog soon, so maybe I'll pick your brain about it later! Thanks for your generosity!

  9. Thanks so much for this freebie! We do take spelling tests. Our report cards are traditional A-F, but they are supposed to be based on progress (excellent progress, good progress, etc.).
