Wednesday's Wonderful Read

Have you read Bunny Cakes by Rosemary Wells?

I had actually forgot about this story (Years ago, it used to be in our Houghton Mifflin Reading Series--as a Themed Paperback), then my son brought it home for a Baggy book a couple weeks ago, and I couldn't believe I had forgotten about it.

*Sidenote, this was in the 1st grade series years ago, marked as an AR Level 2.9, and came home as a Kindergarten baggy book.  Don't ya just love how nothing ever levels up exactly????**

This is a cute story.  However, if you ask my hubby (sorry hubby, if you're actually reading my post today) about this story, or any Max and Ruby stories or shows, he will tell you that it's crazy that these bunnies have no parents around and that the sister is a little bossy....and she's taking on the responsibility of the parent.

Okay, anyways, this story is all about them making a cake for their Grandma, but poor Max keeps causing problems.  There's a cause and effect!! Ruby also  keeps sending Max to the store to get the ingredients---uhm, hello!  There's sequencing!  How did I forget about this story? My kiddos could always use this as review.

Here's a little freebie to go with the story Bunny Cakes.  I think that I will put this in an emergency sub folder. :)

If  you find this helpful/useful/etc, would you consider hitting that little follow button and leave a comment!!  Thanks so much!!!  Have a happy evening! ;)

  2. My mom and I laugh about the Good Dog, Carl books...a dog is in charge of a toddler when the parents go out and there is a roaring fire in the fireplace. And all kinds of other atrocities! So maybe the bunny one is not so bad, after all.

  4. I actually did this story for an observation. Max and Ruby Take the Train is in our Kindergarten reading series. I wanted to do some comparing and contrasting between Max and Ruby stories so I picked Bunny Cakes. The students loved it and it gave me lots of opportunity to predict and sequence. It was the first time I have EVER read it... but I loved it!
