Animals in Winter *FREEBIE*

This is going to be a quick post.  I just wanted to share what we were working on in class.  I wanted to do a little mini unit with my firsties on animals in winter.  I created a little projectable reader last night and shared it with my FB followers.

I also made it in a black and white version so they would have one to color and take home.

After reading the story today, I thought that I could make this into a little reading assessment as well.  Tomorrow, we will reread our story, and complete one of the activities below.  These could be used to differentiate your instruction as well.  The sort page with the words doesn't include all the animals that were in the story, but my students love pulling up pictures on the projector and talking about them.  This will bring a great discussion on the animals that weren't in the story.

This is my first book I've created like this.  Usually my stories are to the form of Brown Bear, Brown Bear.  I hope you enjoy this, and if so....I do LOVE comments ;)

(You can click on any of the pictures to grab you a copy of Animals in Winter. )

Have a good night y'all.  Happy (almost) Friday! :)

  3. So you will probably get tired of hearing from.me but thank you so much. By the way, any packets with verbs in their various tenses ? I have been searching and finding verb, noun and adjective activities but not really anything with different tenses of verbs.

    1. I have found several of my bloggy friends have had them in their packets, but they were Christmas packets. I can include it in my Valentine's pack. I know Katie from Queen of the First Grade Jungle just did a Common Core Winter Pack. She did shades of verbs in it. You may want to check out her blog/store. She does a variety of activities like that. :) Thanks for all the support Cecilia! :)

  4. Awesome! I did find one mistake...you repeat the phrase "to other places" on one of the booklet pages.
Thanks so much for making these units! I plan on using them with my first grade class!

    1. You're welcome Kelly. This was hard for a lot of my kiddos to read, but they enjoyed the story. They really seemed to enjoy the sort today.

  7. DeAnne I love it and thank you! I teach in Florida and we really don't have too much of a winter down here. Because of this, my kids Winter Schema is really lacking. This is a great way to help them add to their schemas as we discuss Winter.

  10. Super cute, and great information. Thanks! I really love the black and white version included; I have some students in my Sunday School who are ELLs and have literally zero books in their houses. This would be great for them and for their parents, who are also learning English!
